Is a NetFlix collaboration in the works for SingTel?
A deal is brimming with upsides, say analysts.
The largest on-demand video streaming service may be teaming up with one-third of Singapore’s telco triumvirate, and equally massive presence in the city-state.
According to analysts from RHB Research, the company’s management is not ruling out an exclusive tie-up with Netflix, which could potentially energise its pay-TV content proposition.
Aside from this, RHB Research says a partnership will also mitigate the threat of over-the-top streaming applications and create stickiness favorable to Netflix.
Meanwhile, RHB Research also cites SingTel’s Optus’ recent tie-up with Netflix in Australia as a good move, boosting SingTel’s fixed/mobile broadband business in Australia.
“It would also counter the threat from TPG Telecom (TPG) (TPM AU, NR) the second largest fixed broadband operator in Australia, which recently merged with iiNet (IIN AU, NR),” RHB Research said.
