OKP Holdings Limited bags S$14.5 million road project

OKP Holdings Limited (OKP) said it has bagged a S$14.5-million contract from Jurong Town Corporation to undertake road construction, road widening and sewerage works at CleanTech Park, Singapore’s first eco-business park situated next to the Nanyang Technological University.

In a statement, the company quoted Jurong Town Corporation as saying that the CleanTech Park looks set to be the choice location for corporations that have embraced environmental sustainability as a means to differentiate their business and also as a part of their corporate social responsibility.

When fully built in 2030, it will house a working population of 20,000.

The latest contract was secured by OKP’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Eng Lam Contractors Co (Pte) Ltd from Jurong Town Corporation, which is OKP’s sixth contract win since the year started.

Work is scheduled to commence tomorrow 19 Oct 2010 and is targeted to be completed by 18 June 2012. The scope of works includes the construction of roads, drains, sewers and ancillary works at the 17-hectare CleanTech Park (Phase 1) located at Nanyang Avenue beside Nanyang Technological University, widening of roads along Nanyang Avenue, as well as sewerage works along Jalan Bahar.

Detailed works on the project include demolition of existing drains and culverts, removal, planting and preservation of trees, erection of road direction signs, painting works, desilting of drains, road diversion works, excavation of sewer manholes, as well as maintenance works.

Mr Or Toh Wat, OKP Group Managing Director said he was thrilled to be involved in this landmark project. “It is a privilege for OKP and we are excited to be part and parcel of this innovative drive. Our expertise and focus are in civil engineering and road construction, an industry that is hardly seen to be glamorous or captivating. But we do serve an important function and we are indeed proud to be able to contribute in our own small way to this interesting and noteworthy project.”

“Part of the challenge in the course of this project would be to ensure that all care is taken to preserve the site’s natural topography, its full-grown verdant foliage and its biodiversity,” he added.
