Keppel hands over Runcorn Energy-from-Waste Facility Phase 2

To its client Viridor.

Keppel Corporation reported that its wholly-owned subsidiary Keppel Seghers has handed over Phase 2 of the Runcorn Energy-from-Waste (EfW) facility in the UK to its client, Viridor Waste Management Limited.

Phase 2 was handed over to Viridor April 24, 2015 after successfully completing a 30-day reliability test. Earlier this year on 18 January 2015, Phase 1 was completed and was handed over. Both phases are operated by Viridor.

The combined first and second phases are able to process up to 850,000 tonnes of refuse derived fuel (RDF) per annum, converting it into renewable energy comprising approximately 80 MW of electricity and 52 MW of thermal energy in the form of steam.

The plant supplies the neighbouring INEOS chemicals manufacturing facility with green energy, reducing its reliance on fossil fuels.
