According to the Hays 2022 Asia Salary Guide, upskilling will become even more of a necessity in the years ahead. The survey showed a growing number of skilled professionals taking the initiative to develop their skills in preparation for progressing in their careers or switching to a different field completely.

With employers increasingly taking a skills-based approach to hiring rather than assessing candidates according to qualifications or job titles, Hays said investing in skills development will be paramount for job seekers. The skills apply to both permanent and temporary employees.

For employers, Hays recommended the implementation of a skills development strategy whilst for employees, it recommended the tailoring of skills development according to organisational needs.
