Keppel T&T and Jilin Food Zone to put up logistics park
The Jilin Food Zone logistics park project paved way for Keppel T&T to expand its presence in North China.
Keppel Telecommunications & Transportation Ltd (Keppel T&T) has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Construction Office of Sino-Singapore Jilin Food Zone to jointly develop a logistics park to serve the proposed Jilin (Sino-Singapore) Food Zone.
The MOU was signed by Sun Zhu Gang, Director, Construction Office of Sino-Singapore Jilin Food Zone, and Mr Pang Hee Hon, CEO of Keppel T&T.
Both parties will begin the feasibility studies for the proposed logistics park which will serve all stakeholders in the Food Zone, according to a Keppel report.
Mr Pang said, "Keppel T&T has been actively exploring opportunities to build on its track record in China. The Jilin Food Zone logistics park project provides another platform for us to expand our footprint in North China. We are very happy to explore with the Jilin municipal government on this development. We believe that Keppel's expertise in providing cold chain logistics service will value-add in the conceptualisation of this landmark project."
Keppel T&T, through a joint venture, has been operating in Foshan, Guangdong since 1994. It provides port operations, international freight forwarding, Non Vessel-Operating Common Carrier, feeder service, warehousing and distribution, trucking service, supply chain solutions, third party logistics as well as other value-added services.
Keppel T&T has been seeking opportunities to expand beyond its base in Southern China.
Just earlier in January 2011, Keppel T&T signed the agreement for land use rights with the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Investment and Development Co Ltd (SSTEC) for the development and operation of a green integrated logistics distribution centre in the Tianjin Eco-City, marking Keppel T&T's first and significant step into North China. Spanning 2.8 hectares and featuring 35,000 square metres of modern warehouse space when completed, the integrated logistics distribution centre will be wholly-owned and operated by Keppel T&T.
