Samsung lights up human torch for Youth Olympics

About 2,010 students from 6 institutions joined the mass formation of the Olympic symbol at the Merchant Loop at 8:10 pm Singapore time on Friday.

The International Presenting Partner of the Journey of the Youth Olympic Flame (JYOF) and Worldwide Olympic Partner, Samsung, on Friday celebrated the lighting of the Youth Olympic flame in Greece with a simultaneous mass formation in the shape of a torch in Singapore.

This spectacular formation affirms our commitment to ensure that the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore will be truly be a landmark event that connects youth to their peers from around the world in the spirit of Olympism,” said Mr. Moon Sung-Hyun, Managing Director, Samsung Asia Pte Ltd.

2,010 students from Assumption English, ITE East, Nanyang Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic joined the mass display at the celebration site at Merchant Loop, in a celebration of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) that will commence on 14 August 2010.

Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee, Mr. Goh Kee Nguan and Samsung executives were joined by more than 3,000 participants and supporters at the celebrations which also featured performances by youth entertainers, including Singapore Idol Sezairi Sezali.

The Olympic Flame for the Singapore 2010 will be lit in Ancient Olympia, Greece, as with all modern day Olympic Games. The Youth Olympic Flame will then blaze a trail to one city in each continent – Berlin, Dakar, Mexico City, Auckland and Seoul – symbolically connecting youth of the world to the Olympic Movement and uniting them in a global celebration of the upcoming YOG.

As the International Presenting Partner of the JYOF, Samsung will also present a host of activities at city celebrations Berlin, Dakar, Mexico City, Auckland and Seoul to welcome the Olympic Flame and to celebrate the Olympic movement.
