Singapore a top choice for retirees’ global travel

It’s the only country in the region included in the ranking.

Singapore heralds the 10th spot in the top 10 destinations for retirees (60 years old and above) to travel to, as the “Golden Gap Year” prompts more seniors to discover abroad.

In an analysis of 45 cities, travel insurance company PayingTooMuch also revealed that retirees would need an average of $2,576 (£1,518) per day to stay in the Lion City for a week in a hotel of three stars or up.

To tally, the country has 825 different things to do and 184 walking tours. It also holds a healthcare score of 70.4 – which measures the quality of healthcare access.

Melbourne tops the list with 1,389 three-star and above hotels, affordable at £860 per week, and a plethora of attractions and off-peak tours tailored to seniors. Sydney follows with 721 walking routes and 1,598 activities, including iconic landmarks like the Opera House and Bondi Beach.

Amsterdam claims third place with 61 available tours and 404 high-quality hotels, albeit at a higher cost. PayingTooMuch also emphasises careful planning, early travel insurance acquisition, and strategies to avoid crowds for a seamless and enjoyable journey.
