What are the top BNPL, rewards apps in the age of changing consumer habits?

Atome and KrisPay are amongst the top convenient shopping apps.

Consumers’ habits have changed due to the rising inflation and other international tensions, which has prompted some apps in the shopping industry to provide convenient options.

According to the 2022 data.ai report, shopping app engagement for e-commerce grew 37% YoY in the first half (H1) of 2022.

As for spending habits, the report found that there is a rise of Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) and coupons and rewards apps.

In fact, download growth for BNPL apps increased 109% YoY in H1 2022, with Atome as the top downloaded app for BNPL payment option. Whilst KrisPay led the apps for commerce and rewards in the same period.

Shopee dominated the shopping app industry, being the top app for total downloads and sessions.

Data.ai, analytics data firm, said consumers are stopping their mall visits by using convenient mobile app shopping.

“E-commerce and BNPL apps have seen particularly strong uptick from H1 2021. E-commerce players are competing for price points and deals. Alongside, upticks in interest for alternative financing, we see consumers are particularly price sensitive heading into Singles Day (11.11) and Black Friday/ Cyber Monday,” Lexi Sydow, data.ai’s head of insights, said.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
