Here's how LTE adoption in Singapore took StarHub by surprise

According to CIMB, the strong take-up of LTE devices is a surprise to Starhub as it thought that LTE is a “2014 technology”. Starhub now believes that it cannot wait until there is sufficient demand before it upgrades to a new technology (e.g. LTE).

This is because new devices such as LTE devices are launched very quickly and its rivals are stepping up the game by investing early. It noted that by delaying network investment, Starhub only saves on the timing of the capex and some opex.
Despite being the only telco in Singapore without a nationwide LTE coverage, StarHub boasts the highest adoption of tiered data plans and LTE services, at 24% of postpaid users. This is followed by SingTel’s 23% and M1’s 20%.
Similar to its rivals, Starhub offers LTE service only to subscribers of its tiered data plans.
