LTA green-lights awarding of Loyang bus package to UK-based Go-Ahead Group

It will receive $497.7m over the 5-year contract.

A new entrant will be roaming the streets of Singapore’s bus industry, as the city-state grants the second bus package to Go-Ahead Group, the largest bus operator in London.

Go-Ahead will operate the Loyang bus package of 25 bus services, which will be operated out of the new Loyang Bus Depot, according to a statement by the LTA.

Additionally, Go-Ahead will also manage two bus interchanges, Pasir Ris Bus Interchange and Punggol Bus Interchange.

LTA says the UK-based bus operator will get to use its bus savvy in Singapore, as it is equipped with 26 years of experience operating both public bus and rail services in the UK.

The grant should be good news to commuters, as they can now expect more buses, as bus services will have scheduled headways of no more than 15 minutes for both directions during the morning and evening peak periods, with at least half of them having scheduled headways of no more than 10 minutes, according to the statement.

“Of these, the feeder services will run at intervals of six to eight minutes,” the statement added.
