Emirates powers Changi flights with sustainable aviation fuel

SAF is made from 100% renewable waste and residue raw materials.

Emirates flights from Singapore Changi Airport are now powered by sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from Neste, marking the airline's initial SAF investment in Asia.

Over the past few weeks, Changi Airport's fuel system received approximately 3.3 million litres of blended SAF fuel.

Neste produced SAF from sustainably sourced and 100% renewable waste and residue raw materials, including used cooking oil and animal fat waste.

The Neste-produced SAF is compatible with existing Emirates aircraft and airport fueling infrastructure. In its neat form, it reduces lifecycle CO2 emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel.

Emirates uses SAF to operate flights from Amsterdam, London Heathrow, Paris, Lyon, and Oslo. The airline also integrated SAF into the fuelling systems at its Dubai hub late last year.

In addition, the airline has committed $270m (US$200m) for research and development (R&D) projects focused on reducing the impact of fossil fuels in commercial aviation.

All aircraft can use SAF, but it must be blended with conventional jet fuel, up to a maximum of 50%.
