Philippine exports may have risen 6.1% in August

As non-electronics exports continue to do well despite economic headwinds, jumping 30% in the first seven months of the year.

However, DBS expects a minor contraction of 1.6% on a year-on-year basis.

Here’s more from DBS:

The global overhang for electronics manufactures is still apparent with the latest North America Semiconductor book-to-bill ratio dipping lower to 0.8 in August (the fourth consecutive month of decline). As such, there is little scope for a meaningful pickup in electronics export over the medium term. However, seasonal factors have historically provided a boost to electronics exports from August to December and that should start to show up in the upcoming trade figures.

Meanwhile, non-electronics exports have continued to perform well despite global headwinds and are up by 30% in the first seven months of the year. With non-electronics holding up and a sequential improvement in electronics exports expected, total exports for August should be up by 6.1% MoM. But on a YoY basis, there will still be a minor contraction of 1.6%.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
