Gov’t expands Career Conversion Programmes
Enhancements include an increase in the salary support cap to $7,500 for mature or long-term unemployed workers.
Manpower Minister Tan See Lang has announced enhancements to the Career Conversion Programmes (CCPs) to strengthen workforce reskilling efforts.
The enhancements include an increase in salary support caps.
Under the CCP, Workforce Singapore (WSG) co-shares costs with employers who reskill new hires or existing workers for new or enhanced job roles.
Employers who reskill mature or long-term unemployed workers are now eligible for up to $7,500 per month, an increase from the previous $6,000 cap.
Other CCP participants will also see an increase in the cap from $4,000 to $5,000 per month.
The adjustment will allow employers to receive a maximum of $45,000 in salary support for each worker undergoing a six-month conversion program.
“Today, CCPs can only be used to reskill existing workers in jobs that are at risk of redundancy. Going forward, we will support employers who are proactively reskilling existing workers to take on new growth job roles,” said Tan in a speech at the Parliament.
The minister also introduced the Global Business Leaders Programme and the Overseas Markets Immersion Programme, providing additional avenues for career development and global exposure for Singaporean workers.
“Employees will benefit from reskilling through on-the-job, in-market training in global or regional roles offering good prospects, whether in technology, business development or beyond,” Tan said.
Last year, the government launched the CareersFinder feature of the MyCareersFuture portal, utilising data and AI, to support workers in making informed decisions about training and career plans.
Tan reported that within the initial six months, more than 15,000 individuals utilised CareersFinder, with early indications showing that these users are applying for jobs across a broader range of occupations.
