IMDA scales green tech trials after 20% energy cost cuts
Accenture and Green Software Foundation co-developed the scaled adoption guide.
The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has launched new resources to support local businesses in adopting digital sustainability solutions practically and measurably.
The IMDA has partnered with Accenture and the Green Software Foundation to develop the Practical Green Software Guide for Enterprises for scaled adoption, as green software practice trials have resulted in participating businesses achieving at least 20% reductions in carbon emissions, energy usage, and costs.
The authority also designed a Digital Technologies for Sustainability Playbook to guide on reducing operating costs through solutions such as automation, the Internet of Things, data analytics and artificial intelligence.
Separately, the IMDA and the National University of Singapore Energy Studies Institute jointly developed Singapore-specific emission factors for ICT services.
These emission factors are used to convert ICT usage, including cloud storage and virtual machines, into greenhouse gas emissions data.
In addition, a carbon calculator for cloud services was rolled out to complement the emission factors, allowing users to track emissions based on service type, service configuration, and user duration.
The launch follows findings from a 2025 IMDA survey, which showed that 81% of non-SMEs and 27% of SMEs have adopted at least one digital sustainability solution, citing regulatory requirements, customer expectations, and demand as the primary drivers behind their sustainability efforts.
