Mapletree locks in SP Group for HarbourFront cooling network

The 5-building link will slash 13,700 tonnes of carbon and save 5% in annual costs.

Mapletree Investments and Mapletree Pan Asia Commercial Trust have appointed SP Group to design, build, and operate a new Distributed District Cooling (DDC) system in Singapore.

The DDC system will interconnect five buildings – Bank of America HarbourFront, the new HarbourFront Centre, the existing HarbourFront Towers 1 & 2, and VivoCity – supplying chilled water through three injection nodes.

It is expected to be 8% more energy-efficient than the National Environment Agency’s Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards for water-cooled chilled water systems in industrial facilities upon full implementation, Mapletree said in a press release.

In addition, the system is projected to save more than 5% in annual cooling-related expenses with an installed cooling capacity of 17,150 refrigeration tonnes. It will also reduce carbon emissions by about 13,700 tonnes over the 20-year operating period.

The DDC network will be implemented in two phases, starting in 2027 and is targeted to be fully operational by 2031.

The project is expected to be one of Singapore’s largest brownfield district cooling deployments.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
