Enterprise Singapore, CapitaLand launch retail challenge for local brands

Winners get mall space and funding support.

Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG) and CapitaLand Investment (CLI) have launched the Retail Maverick Challenge, a competition inviting local retail brands to pitch innovative store concepts.

The initiative invites Singapore-based retailers to propose bold, experiential store ideas that can better meet consumer demands, enhance in-store engagement, and improve operational efficiency through technology.

Up to three winners will be selected. Each will get up to 4,000 sq ft of retail space in a CapitaLand mall for one year, plus up to $300,000 in co-funding support from EnterpriseSG for implementation costs.

Winners will also benefit from marketing support and industry connections from both organisers.

The challenge comes amid growing pressure on Singapore’s retail sector, which has faced uneven growth due to shifting consumer behaviour and competition from e-commerce.

Local retailers are increasingly tasked with building brand awareness and managing rising business costs.

In response, EnterpriseSG is pushing for a transformation of the retail experience through technology adoption and experiential design.

The Retail Maverick Challenge follows a string of successful retail innovation projects backed by EnterpriseSG, including experiential stores launched by FairPrice Group, MORNING, and Wine Portal Holding (Vivino). These stores have reported increased customer engagement, footfall, and revenue since implementation.

Applications open from 18 June to 4 August 2025.
