Singapore women aged 18-25 prefer blog shopping

According to a release, Friday night saw the first blogshop fashion show ever staged in Singapore. Hosted by LiveJournal.sg, the event attracted over 200 guests including top bloggers and blogshop owners as well as local celebrities, online business executives and the media. Blogshops that showcased clothes and accessories in the fashion show inside the nightspot Butter Factory included DressaBelle, My Glamour Place, Momoteapot, Wonderstellar, FashPash, and Rashonal.

Blogshopping has notably become the preferred way of shopping for women in Singapore between the ages of 18 and 25. Whilst window-shopping has not lost its charm, the variety, the high discounts and sheer ease of shopping online, has resulted in a drastic switch. A typical dress in a blogshop costs approximately S$18 while accessories can go for under S$5!

Blogshops also offer additional revenue streams for cash-strapped students and other entrepreneurs eager to tap into the region’s rising volume of e-commerce.

Apart from blogshop models hitting the catwalk, 70 members of DreamWerkz, a dance group created by students at Singapore Institute of Management staged a surprise flash mob at One Fullerton to promote blogshopping in Singapore. Sporting, T’s with the slogan “blog. shop. LiveJournal”, they danced to tracks emphasising the word ‘Life’ such as Bon Jovi’s “It’s my life” and Backstreet Boys’ “Larger than life”.

Roshni Mahtani, CEO of Tickled Media, the publishing house running LiveJournal in Asia, said “blogshopping enables budding designers and fashionistas to design and sell their creations online at little or no costs. It also takes very little time to set up a blogshop. The owner of one of our blogshops, rashonal.livejournal.com, shared that she set it up in less than two hours including the time taken for photo-shoots of the various products.”

Mahtani added that her company expects online shopping in South-East Asia to grow even faster in 2012 as Asia is catching up to the level of e-commerce seen in the US and Europe.
