Meetarbhan, Bajpai join SMX Advisory Board

The SMX Advisory Board at SMX advises the Board of Directors and helps create a charter as well as roadmap to enable SMX to become the pan-Asian marketplace for commodity derivatives trading.

According to SMX, Eminent H.E. Dr. Milan Meetarbhan, former Chief Executive of the Financial Services Commission of Mauritius and presently Mauritius Ambassador to the United Nations in New York and Mr. G N Bajpai, former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India and the Life Insurance Corporation of India, are now part of the Advisory Board.

The SMX Advisory Board, which already comprises highly accomplished and acclaimed industry leaders, will be further strengthened with the addition of Mr. Bajpai and Dr. Meetarbhan to the board.

We are privileged to have global financial thought leaders like Dr. Meetarbhan and Mr. Bajpai join our advisory board,” said Mr. Jignesh Shah, Vice-Chairman of SMX.

Commenting on joining the SMX Advisory Board, H.E. Dr. Milan Meetarbhan said, “I’m pleased and honored to guide the world class professional team at SMX and look forward to contribute towards creating a global financial institution from Singapore in an era during which the centre of economic gravity shifts closer to Asia.”

Mr. G N Bajpai said, “The Singapore Mercantile Exchange is poised to become a gateway to pan-Asian commodity derivatives trading and I hope to play an active role in this project that will establish the pre-eminence of Asia in the global financial markets in time to come.”

H.E. Dr. Milan J.N. Meetarbhan is the former Chief Executive of the Financial Services Commission (FSC) of Mauritius and presently Mauritius Ambassador to the United Nations in New York. A former academic and law practitioner, Dr. Meetarbhan had also held senior positions in Mauritius Government prior to his appointment to the FSC. He was also Vice-Chairman of the SADC Committee of Insurance, Securities and Non-Banking Financial Authorities.

Mr. G.N. Bajpai is the former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). He was also the chairman of the corporate governance task force of International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and delivers lectures at the London School of Economics (LSE), Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A winner of many awards, Mr. Bajpai has also authored books like “The Securities Market” and “Marketing of Insurances” among others.
