PIER71 opens application for Smart Port Challenge 2020

It will feature an innovation opportunity focussing on maritime decarbonisation for the first time.

Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and NUS Enterprise have launched this year’s Smart Port Challenge, a joint media release confirmed. Tech startups may now submit proposals based on any of the 17 innovation opportunities.

Shortlisted start-ups will gain exclusive access to PIER71 Accelerate, a six-week market and business model validation programme, its global network of partners, mentoring, workshops and masterclasses, and eligibility for MPA grant applications of up to $50,000 each. Top three cash prizes for the challenge constitute $10,000, $5,000 and $3,000 respectively. To support Maritime Singapore’s long-term sustainability goals, an innovation opportunity focussing on maritime decarbonisation will be featured for the first time, the media release added.

In the last three seasons, over 400 tech startups from Singapore, China, Japan, Denmark, Netherlands, and the US participated in this event and 32 of them received over $1.5m as grant funding.
