Grab adjusts SG-JB pilot after more than 1,000 trips
Booking lead time was reduced to six hours from 12.
Grab has expanded and refined its Cross-Border SG-JB (Beta) ride-hailing pilot, following its earlier rollout under the Cross-Border Ride-Hail Service Operator Licence (CRSOL) between Singapore and Malaysia.
The platform said on 29 May that more than 1,000 cross-border rides have been completed since the pilot launched on 4 May.
The service connects passengers between any location in Singapore and selected areas in Malaysia, including Johor Bahru, Iskandar Puteri, Forest City, Kulai, and Senai.
Grab said it has reduced the advance booking requirement to six hours from 12 hours previously, allowing users to schedule trips closer to departure time. It also introduced automated prompts for return-trip bookings after an initial journey is confirmed.
To support demand during the June holiday period, Grab increased its cross-border ride discount to up to 30% from 29 May to 28 June, up from 20% earlier in May.
The changes follow Grab’s earlier launch of the SG-JB pilot after receiving the first CRSOL under the enhanced Cross-Border Taxi Scheme jointly announced by Singapore and Malaysia authorities.
The initial rollout allowed advance bookings of between 12 hours and seven days, with the service gradually expanded as licensed cross-border taxis were onboarded.
Alvin Wee, Senior Director of Transport and Country Operations at Grab Singapore, said the updates were based on feedback from passengers and licensed cross-border taxi driver-partners during the early phase of the pilot.
He added that cross-border demand is expected to rise during the school holiday period.
Grab said the service continues to operate as a door-to-door booking platform linking Singapore with designated areas in Johor, whilst working with licensed cross-border taxi drivers under regulatory arrangements in both countries.
