Singapore Registry of Ships surpasses 100 million gross tonnage milestone

The SRS registered a new VLCC tanker named Eagle Veracruz.

The Singapore Registry of Ships (SRS) surpassed the 100 million gross tonnage (GT) milestone following the registration of a new Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) tanker, Eagle Veracruz on 23 January 2024.

Eagle Veracruz is a dual-fuelled liquefied natural gas VLCC named after the Mexican State of Veracruz where one of the oldest ports in Mexico is located. It exceeds 330 metres in length with a volume of over 156,000 GT.

The vessel is designed to be energy-efficient with enhanced stability and maneuverability. The main engine is also designed to run on low- and zero-carbon fuels.

The SRS continuously promotes maritime digitalisation and decarbonisation and expects more greener ships in Singapore in the coming years.

In 2023, 22 newly registered Singapore-registered ships received Green Ship Certificates under the Green Ship Programme.

Currently, the MPA-backed SRS manages about 4,000 vessels aggregating over 100 million gross tonnage.
