Seatrium wins ABS nod for offshore ammonia energy hub concept
The hub integrates ammonia fuel, power generation, and vessel charging.
Singapore-based Seatrium has received Approval in Principle (AIP) from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for its NEXTGEN Energy Hub, an offshore concept integrating ammonia storage and bunkering, power generation, and electric vessel charging.
The company said in a LinkedIn post that the concept combines multiple maritime energy functions within a single offshore platform.
It supports ammonia-based marine fuel adoption, provides offshore power generation for export, and enables charging for electric vessels.
The design uses its GraviBED platform, which enables offshore ammonia systems and is engineered for stability in dynamic sea conditions.
The system incorporates safety barriers and is designed for operation in offshore environments.
The AIP indicates that ABS has reviewed the concept design and found it technically viable at a preliminary level. The certification does not constitute approval for construction.
Seatrium developed the concept under a strategic memorandum of understanding with ABS.
