Igloo deploys AI travel insurance sales channel in Indonesia

It handles discovery to policy issuance in single conversational flow.

Singapore-based insurance technology company Igloo has launched an AI-powered travel insurance assistant in Indonesia that completes the full purchase journey within a single conversational interface.

The assistant, called Igi, is integrated into Igloo’s consumer platform igloo.co.id and is designed to handle product discovery, comparison, recommendation, payment, and policy issuance within one interaction, according to a media statement.

Igloo said Igi is available 24/7 and replaces a traditional telesales model for travel insurance, with escalation to human agents via WhatsApp for cases requiring assistance.

The company said the system differs from standard chatbot tools by functioning as a sales agent that manages the end-to-end purchase process.

“Igi takes that same infrastructure and puts it in front of the consumer. It sits with the customer, understands their trip, recommends the right plan, and closes the sale, at any hour, in minutes,” said Raunak Mehta, Co-Founder and CEO of Igloo.

The assistant is currently live in Indonesia, where insurance penetration stands at 2.7%, according to the statement.

Igloo said Igi aims to address barriers in the travel insurance purchase process, including product complexity, comparison across providers, and limited access outside business hours.

The company said users who engaged with Igi were 44% more likely to complete a purchase compared to those using the standard website experience, based on internal data provided in the statement.

It added that users in a hybrid flow converted at more than 1.7 times the rate at the point of purchase.

Igloo said it plans to extend the assistant to messaging platform WhatsApp and expand similar conversational AI capabilities to other insurance products, including motor and personal accident coverage.

The company said the launch forms part of its broader deployment of AI across underwriting, fraud detection, claims processing, and sales functions.
