OpenNet goes into commercial operation

Nation's optical fibre network company set to offer ultra high speed Next Gen NBN.

OpenNet, the Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network(Next Gen NBN) passive infrastructure operator appointed by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, has announced commencement of commercial operations with immediate effect.

“We are excited and extremely pleased in reaching this important milestone to build the optical fibre network for Singapore’s Next Gen NBN. It represents many months of hard work at OpenNet and we look forward to working closely with Operating Companies and Qualifying Persons in delivering ultra-high bandwidth to the nation,” says Mrs Tan Kah-Rhu, Chief Executive Officer of OpenNet in a statement on Wednesday.

Potential Operating Companies and Qualifying Persons interested in acquiring services from OpenNet can refer to the company’s website – www.opennet.com.sg/our-customers.

The Next Gen NBN is Singapore’s nation-wide ultra-high speed fibre network. It offers broadband speeds that are at least 100 times faster than today’s, to all physical addresses in Singapore, which include homes, businesses, schools, government buildings and hospitals. It will be competitively priced.

To date, the optical fibre cable rollout has already passed through 30% of households and non-residential buildings in Singapore.

OpenNet’s nation-wide ultra-high speed fibre network will soon be a common utility in every household. Consumers in Singapore can look forward to affordable ultra-high bandwidth applications and services in the near future.

Interested homeowners can check whether their premises are ready for home fibre installation via OpenNet Coverage Check portal (rollout.opennet.com.sg). Once their premises are ready for installation, homeowners are strongly encouraged to visit www.opennet.com.sg to make an appointment to take advantage of the free installation.

Online appointment booking not only saves time but also enables homeowners to make appointments in the comfort of their homes, at their own convenient time and with the benefit of instant confirmation. At a glance on their own computer screens, homeowners will know the available time slots to plan their appointment schedules.

Authorised OpenNet contractors will take no more than four hours on average to install the fibre inside the home on the day of installation. As far as possible, OpenNet’s contractors will try to use existing points of entry, existing conduits and surface trunking to minimise any drilling or hacking.
