What you must know about Sembcorp Marine's new Tuas Yard

Expected to lower turnaround time.

According to Nomura, the yard is expected to significantly enhance SMM’s capabilities by alleviating logistical issues faced at the older yard and contributing to reduced dependence on foreign labour on account of efficiency improvements.

By enabling double banking, the new yard will lead to significantly lower turnaround time and costs.

Here's more from Nomura:

The new yard will lead to doing away of ferrying people from the older yard to the deeper area on a daily basis, thus reducing costs.

The new port coming up in Tuas is literally “across the street” from the older yard and management remain confident that this strategic location will make the vessels at the new port its captive market.

The shipyard will also cater to ships and semis that have specific depth and length requirements, which can be worked upon at very few yards globally.
