Changi Airport’s passenger traffic rises to 16.8 million in September

It rose by 10.0% YoY.

Changi Airport handled 16.8 million passengers from July to September (Q3 2024), a 10.0% increase from last year.

Q3 passenger movements reached 97.4% of the levels seen in the third quarter of 2019.

In Q3, the airport reported 92,100 aircraft movements, translating to an increase of 7.5% YoY.

The region with the strongest growth in Q3 was still North America, with a 27.0% YoY growth.

Meanwhile, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia and Thailand were the top five markets of the airport.

Passenger traffic between China and Singapore rose 50% YoY. Hong Kong and Japan's traffic also grew, surpassing 2023 levels by more than 20%.

The airport's top city was Shanghai where year-to-date traffic more than doubled compared to a year ago.

Other top cities include Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, London, Melbourne and Tokyo which all registered year-on-year double-digit growth in Q3.

Like passenger movement, the airport's air freight throughput improved, increasing by 13.5% YoY to 512,000 tonnes.

The airport attributed the growth to major improvements in cargo flows between Singapore and China and Singapore and the United States.

For Q3, Changi’s top five air cargo markets were Australia, China, Hong Kong, India and the United States.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
