Amplify Health wins most innovative AI solution for health insurance at SBR Technology Excellence Awards 2025

Amplify Health was commended by the awards programme for successfully transforming the medical claims adjudication process for one of Malaysia’s largest health insurers through AI-driven health intelligence.

Amplify Health won the AI - Health Insurance category at the SBR Technology Excellence Awards 2025, in recognition of its integrated health intelligence solution comprising multiple AI modules.

Amplify Health introduced an AI-powered solution to transform the way insurers assess and manage health claims, by turning unstructured medical claims information into standardised health data. The solution’s AI modules range from data capture and standardisation to enrichment (clinical coding) and outlier analysis.

It addresses longstanding industry challenges in identifying overcharging, as well as wasteful and fraudulent usage of medical services. These issues arise from the lack of standardised data and clinical terminology, making it difficult for insurers to understand the medical context behind each claim.

“Health insurance needs more intelligent advice and Amplify Health is paving the way, leading the charge with an innovative, data-driven approach that redefines the customer experience,” stated the judging panel.

Amplify Health’s integrated health intelligence solution uses natural language processing to extract relevant information from medical invoices and insurance claims, and multi-stage AI algorithms to map medical text into clinical codes. The standardised and enriched health data is then automatically checked against hundreds of policy arrangements, while machine learning models perform outlier analysis over the data. The combined output of these two analyses provides real-time decision support that streamlines the claims adjudication process by enabling insurers to rapidly assess compliance with existing agreements, and pinpoint specific claim lines that should be further reviewed for potential fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA).

Amplify Health implemented its AI-powered solution in 2024 for one of Malaysia’s largest health insurance providers. Its data capture solution doubled the number of claims that could be processed automatically, while its AI-powered clinical encoder rapidly converted free text into clinical codes, across 17 different medical domains. Crucially, its machine learning models accurately detected FWA instances that identified 2.1% savings on total claims processed by the end of year one.

At the moment, Amplify Health’s integrated health intelligence solution is deployed in three key markets in Asia-Pacific: Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. As the solution is used more widely, the machine learning models become even better at identifying sophisticated fraud patterns. Future deployments will require less training, enabling Amplify Health to detect more complex forms of fraud, such as collusion behavioural patterns, procedure pair, and place of service mismatches.
