Autonomous a2z wins SBR International Business Awards for Traffic Safety Service Device

The solution transmits information combined with precision maps.

Driving mobility platform Autonomous a2z brought home the Automotive & Transport System category win for its traffic safety service device LIDAR Infrastructure System at the SBR International Business Awards 2023.

The device, developed based on autonomous driving technology, comprises a single LIDAR sensor for perception and a computer with software that combines the perceived information with precise maps. It transmits information combined with precision maps, just like utilising sensors in autonomous vehicles.

The system is simple in design and requires less maintenance than a camera or radar-based equipment that requires multiple installations. Additionally, the sensor's characteristics allow it to perceive situations accurately regardless of traffic congestion or weather conditions.

These characteristics led to the LIDAR Infrastructure System receiving the 'top-level' certification in terms of sudden situation detection system performance by the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology. It has been validated as an infrastructure technology capable of overcoming limitations faced by autonomous vehicles.

Currently, it is installed at intersections and congested traffic areas to detect and transmit information about surrounding situations, such as cars, pedestrians, and traffic signals to the driver's vehicle, enabling safer driving. The LIDAR Infrastructure System is also targeting to launch in two other markets.

The first one is in limited areas, such as car test tracks. Global automobile manufacturers and major countries already have testing facilities for vehicle safety verification, and they are expanding the equipment to upgrade these facilities into autonomous vehicle test tracks.

The other is public roads in special areas like 'Smart City'. The world is now focusing on building Smart Cities which will act as platforms for future mobility, and the market size in Korea alone exceeds  1 trillion South Korea Won. Future mobility, such as autonomous vehicles, is actively being commercialised, and Autonomous a2z is also gaining attention from an infrastructure perspective.

In Singapore, the LIDAR Infrastructure System has been awarded a Research Collaboration Agreement (RCA) for Connected Smart Mobility (COSMO) national R&D programme. Autonomous a2z has incorporated a Singapore entity to further developments in the Singapore market.

SBR International Business Awards honours foreign companies in Singapore and recognises the outstanding projects that have successfully gained a foothold in the city-state.
