Videojet Technologies (S) Pte Ltd earns the SBR International Business Awards for Manufacturing

Its Videojet 1580 Continuous Inkjet Printer improved coding performance and reduced costs for a pressure sensitive labels manufacturer in Singapore.

Videojet Technologies (S) Pte Ltd won in the Manufacturing category of Singapore Business Review's International Business Awards 2020, which honours exceptional international businesses based in Singapore.

The company was recognised for its 1580 continuous inkjet (CIJ) printer which helped its client, a leading manufacturer of pressure sensitive labels, shrink sleeves, and security solutions achieve increased productivity and uptime for their Singapore plant operations.

Before the installation, Videojet Technologies noted that their customer had two existing CIJ printers in their production line installed with a 3rd party software to print the random lucky draw codes offline on the cigarettes packet after the coating of the plastic film.

However, these printers’ downside is that the packets take up to 2 weeks to dry after printing. Each printer can also only be set up with a maximum of 15,000 random codes at one time. With this limitation, the operators would have to set up multiple times of loading new batch of code numbers during their 8 hours operation, leading to downtime and a cumbersome process.

Recognizing the challenges the company faced, Videojet installed 7 units of the 1580 CIJ printer in 2020 as part of their inline coding process and the printing is now completed before the packets are coated.

The 1580 printer includes industry leading features such as the Videojet OPTIMiZE software to guide operators on correcting suboptimal printer usage, and the SIMPLICiTY™ interface that helps eliminate potential operator errors.

The printer also has the Code Assurance capability which offers intelligent message creation and a built-in make-up reserve tank, which helps enable the printer to run for a minimum of 8 hours after the cartridge is empty. Its field-proven perforated nozzle with optional Videojet CleanFlow™ printhead technology also requires less frequent cleaning and delivers longer runs and consistent print performance.

Upon installation, the customer said to have increased their productivity by 200%, volume by 300%, and reduced the delivery lead time from 14 days to 1 day. The random codes are now also printed beneath the coat, therefore the code quality after the print and coat process is guaranteed and consistent.

Their operators can also quickly perform routine maintenance with easy-to-change SmartCell™ color-coded printer components, that are engineered for predictable replacement intervals to align with normal line shutdowns and no additional production downtime.

The Videojet 1580 CIJ printer is said to have given their customer the peace of mind of minimal unplanned line downtime, enhanced everyday printer performance and reduced ongoing costs.
