Ascott signs deal to manage five-star hotel in Johor Bahru

It will offer 207 rooms and target both short- and long-stay travellers.

The Ascott Limited has signed a hotel management agreement with Coronade Properties Sdn Bhd to operate a new five-star hotel in the upcoming Coronation Square development, located within the Ibrahim International Business District (IIBD) in Johor Bahru.

The site lies within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) and is directly linked to the Rapid Transit System (RTS) station at Bukit Chagar.

The agreement marks the first major hospitality partnership following the Singapore-Malaysia JS-SEZ pact signed in January 2025, according to a joint announcement from Ascott and Coronade Properties on Thursday.

The hotel, which will operate under Ascott’s flagship brand, will be the company’s sixth Ascott-branded property in Malaysia and its first in Johor Bahru.

The property, to be named Ascott Coronation Square Johor Bahru, is scheduled to open in the second half of 2029.

It will offer 207 rooms and target both short- and long-stay travellers. Planned facilities include an all-day dining restaurant, fitness centre, pool, meeting rooms, and curated hospitality features under the “Ascott Artisan” service concept.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
