Elliot James Interiors targets Middle East expansion with Dubai launch

The firm responds to rising demand for purpose-driven, design-led environments in the Middle East.

Founded in 2012, Singapore-based Elliot James Interiors has entered the UAE’s commercial design sector, an increasingly popular move for design-forward firms seeking expansion into high-growth markets in the Middle East.

Whilst maintaining a strong established presence in Singapore, the firm’s co-founders, Elliot Barratt and Tom Ryan, see the UAE as a natural next step in their international growth strategy.

“While Singapore established our name in Asia, Dubai offered opportunities to cater to clients' changing needs, shifting from investment-focused to lifestyle-oriented interior design - an increasing priority in that market,” said co-founder Elliot Barratt.

The Middle East’s growing demand for sophisticated, multi-functional living and working spaces aligns with the firm's boutique approach to curated projects.

“Somewhat akin to Singapore, the UAE enjoys a liberal and innovative market, but moreover, there is increasing demand for functional and purpose-driven design in the Middle East,” Barratt added.

Standards across markets
To support operational continuity while scaling, Elliot James Interiors leverages cloud-based collaboration tools and prioritises local talent acquisition.

“It is helpful to transition to browser-based software and collaboration tools to enable remote work and hire local talent, while still protecting the company’s creative essence.”

Elliot James Interiors specialises in hospitality and wellness projects, and Barratt added that whilst local knowledge and experience can translate to the UAE market, businesses must be sensitive to acknowledge and adjust to the vicissitudes of the Middle East.

“Any business must display the confidence to either execute clients' creative ideas or provide constructive feedback when necessary, and this is greatly assisted if a business is expanding from an original office,” concluded Barratt.
