Joo Chiat shophouse sold for $8.55m

The two-storey property sits on a 509.3-square-metre site with an estimated floor area of 273.7 sqm.

A freehold corner shophouse at 247 and 249 Joo Chiat Place—home to the long-standing Eng Seng Restaurant—has been sold for $8.55m, according to its sole agent ETC.

The sale price works out to approximately $2,902 per square foot based on the estimated floor area.

The two-storey property sits on a 509.3-square-metre site with an estimated floor area of 273.7 sqm. and boasts a prominent dual frontage along Still Road and Joo Chiat Place.

It holds permanent approval for use as an “eating house,” a designation that is no longer granted for shophouses in the area.

Eng Seng Restaurant, well-known for its black pepper crabs and long customer queues, will cease operations at the end of August 2025.
