Singapore ranks 6th globally, tops APAC for A&E talent: Savills
However, firms are urged to be more deliberate in office space use amidst rising costs.
Singapore placed sixth globally in Savills’ Architecture and Engineering (A&E) Talent Index, the highest ranking in the Asia Pacific (APAC), alongside Hong Kong and Tokyo, Japan.
The property adviser said the ranking reflects its education base, industry ecosystem and regional connectivity.
On salary competitiveness, Singapore, along with Tokyo, maintained globally competitive junior salary levels within APAC.
“As global uncertainties increase, Singapore’s stability, ease of operating and strong talent base continue to make it an attractive location for architecture and engineering firms,” said Ashley Swan, executive director for commercial and industrial at Savills Singapore.
However, Swan said companies need to be more deliberate in planning and using office space as occupancy and operating costs rise.
“We are seeing occupiers place greater emphasis on workplace efficiency, flexibility and location to ensure they can attract and retain talent while managing costs effectively,” she added.
San Francisco and New York remain the dominant A&E talent hubs in North America, whilst Zurich and London top the European rankings.
Meanwhile, a survey of Savills experts working with A&E firms found that 78% identified access to talent as the most important factor shaping portfolio decisions, followed by real estate costs (74%) and the cost of talent (61%).
The group said these factors may prompt firms to reassess location strategies to secure access to skilled professionals whilst managing costs and maintaining suitable office environments.
