Stripe enters Singapore's crowded mobile payments market

Will its digital services stand out?

Payment startup Stripe Inc. is ready for an Asian expansion with Singapore as its springboard to larger markets.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Stripe is bringing its service to the Lion City to assist local startups build online businesses. It’s foray into the leading Asian financial hub happens at a time when Singapore is aggressively rolling out initiatives to achieve its ambition to be a smart nation.

Valued at US$5 billion when it raised funds from Visa Inc. a year ago, Stripe enters a crowded market with Braintree as well as traditional financial companies barreling into mobile payments.
