Employment growth doubles in Q3 as resident and non-resident hiring rises

Advanced estimates show that employment grew by 24,100.

Employment growth more than doubled in Q3 as hiring of both residents and non-residents picked up.

Advanced estimates from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) showed that employment grew by 24,100 in Q3, a wider increase from the 11,300 growth in Q2.

Resident employment grew in sectors like Information & Communications, Professional Services, and Health & Social Services.

Meanwhile, the Construction, Manufacturing, and Administrative and Support Services sectors drove the increase in non-resident employment.

With higher employment, unemployment rates dropped to 1.8% in September from 1.9% in August.

Unemployment rates for residents and citizens held steady at 2.6% and 2.7%, respectively.

Retrenchments likewise declined, falling to 2,900 in Q3 from 3,270 in Q2.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
