‘Expert’ investors more likely to see long-term gains in green investing

67% of investors in Singapore believe sustainable investing will have long-term returns.

A total of 67% of investors in Singapore who consider themselves as having “expert/advanced” knowledge in investment see sustainable investing will have long-term returns, Schroders reported.

In its Global Investor Study 2022, Schroders noted this is lower than the 72% average in Southeast Asia, and 68% across the globe.

The report also found that only 53% of “intermediate” investors in Singapore, and 43% of “beginners” share the perception that sustainable investing will ensure profitability in the long run.

“We are pleased to see a majority of investors in Singapore believe sustainability is crucial to delivering long-term risk-adjusted returns,” Lily Choh, CEO of Schroders Singapore, said.

“Although there is higher scepticism amongst beginner/rudimentary investors, as the short-term trade-offs continue to diminish, we anticipate they, too, will view sustainable investing in a different light.”

Moreover, 68% of “expert/advanced” investors believe that investing sustainably will lead to a positive change in responding to climate change.

“The role that asset managers play is increasingly critical in helping investors differentiate and better understand the benefits of investing sustainably,” Choh said.

“The intrinsic link between long-term sustainable investment returns and investing in companies generating a positive impact on environmental and social causes is growing stronger each day.”

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
