Gov’t seeks constructive dialogue with US on mutual concerns
ASEAN reaffirmed its commitment to a free, fair, and inclusive trading system.
Singapore and other Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries are seeking constructive dialogue with the United States on mutual concerns, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong.
Yong attended the special ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting, wherein ASEAN governments deliberated measures to be taken following US President Trump’s new tariff policies.
“We urge the US and China to address their differences through constructive engagement and dialogue,” government officials said.
Moreover, ASEAN reaffirmed its commitment to a free, fair, inclusive, sustainable, and rules-based multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization.
“Open communication and collaboration are crucial in ensuring a balanced and sustainable relationship. In that spirit, ASEAN commits to not imposing any retaliatory measures in response to the US tariffs,” they added.
