Singapore and Malaysia kick off first meeting on maritime boundary delimitation

They will build a sub-committee to address the legalities of the delimitation.

Singapore and Malaysia held their first meeting on 13 May in Singapore, according to a press release by Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The negotiations were led by Singapore’s permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Chee Wee Kiong and Malaysia’s secretary general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Sri Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob.

The Committee has agreed to build a sub-committee to address the legal and technical aspects of delimitation. This subcommittee will be co-led by the director-general of the Department of Maritime Affairs of the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the director-general of the International Affairs Division of the Singapore Attorney-General’s Chambers.

“In line with the recommendations of the Malaysia-Singapore Working Group, the committee also agreed upon practical modalities for operational agencies to avoid untoward incidents on the ground,” the announcement noted, adding that all the recommendations under the working group have been successfully implemented.

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
