Total employment up by 8,400 in Q2
Unemployment rate for residents and citizens were at 2.9% and 3%, respectively.
Total employment in Singapore rose by 8,400 in Q2 2025, a threefold rise from Q1 and higher than in Q4 2024, official data showed.
However, it is lower than the 11,300 new roles reported in Q2 2024.
This reflects larger gains in both resident and non-resident employment compared to the previous quarter, according to the Ministry of Manpower (MoM).
Resident employment continued to expand in sectors such as Financial Services and Health & Social Services.
In contrast, Professional Services and Information & Communications registered continued declines, the MoM said.
Growth in non-resident employment was driven entirely by work permit holders, particularly in the Construction sector, the MoM said.
The unemployment rate rose for both residents and citizens, to 2.9% and 3%, respectively. This is the same level seen in March 2025.
Retrenchments were at 3,500 in Q2 2025, around the same as the 3,590 retrenchments for Q1.
The incidence of retrenchment is at 1.4 retrenched per 1,000 employees.
