Chart of the Day: Real estate assets rose 30% to $90b in 2016

Assets from REITs grew 10% to $94b.

This chart from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) shows the total real estate assets under management rose 30% to $90b in 2016.

Meanwhile, assets from Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) rose 10% to $94b.

Other alternative assets such as private equity also rose 14% to $152b, whilst hedge funds hiked 16% to $138b.

Venture capital assets still comprised the smallest portion of alternative assets but posted the biggest growth of 32% to $5b.

There are 660 registered and licensed fund managers, up by 32 in 2016.
