More than 1 in 3 Singaporeans use mobile wallets in face-to-face transactions: Visa

Faster transactions, ease of use are top considerations.

Singapore is currently one of the leading markets in the world for contactless payments, as more than 4 million Visa payWave transactions made in a month, according to data from Visa.

Visa reports that more than 1 in 3 Singaporeans use Visa payWave for face-to-face transactions. Further, the penetration is higher in supermarkets, where more than half the cashless transactions for Visa are contactless.

In addition, Visa’s 2015 Consumer Payment Attitudes Survey reveals that almost 6 in 10 (58%) of Singapore consumers would prefer making in-store purchases with mobile wallets like Samsung Pay, Apple Pay and Android Pay, rather than cash.

Moreover, respondents cited faster transactions (71%), ease of use (55%), and no need to have cash on hand (47%) as the main reasons for choosing contactless payment options over cash.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
