This gov’t portal tells you the locations of budget meals

The website lists 40 coffee shops rented by HDB offering budget meals.

When inflation strikes, hungry Singaporeans will be needing affordable meals. This challenge was addressed by GovTech Singapore and HDB through the launch of BudgetMealGoWhere, which includes over 40 coffee shops offering budget meals.

“Budget meal options include lunch or dinner meals that are priced affordably as compared to the average price of meals sold at nearby eating establishments (can be HDB coffee shops or hawker centres),” read the FAQs posted on the website.

The meals are full meals and not side dishes or half-portion meals.

A user may type their location in Singapore then the website will provide them with several restaurants with their menu and food prices.

Rental discount

Starting May 2023, HDB will create a provision of budget meals as part of the requirements for rental coffee shops when they renew their tenancies. As a support, HDB will offer a 5% rental discount for a year when the new requirements are implemented.

This requirement of budget meals was only introduced in new coffee shops tendered out in September 2018.

HDB will also increase the number of coffee shops having budget meals and drinks every month, as operators renew or sign new tenancies with HDB.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
