Fish out! Underwater World Singapore to shutter doors on June 26

There will be special rates until it ceases operations.

This is not a fish story. Underwater World Singapore (UWS) revealed on Monday that it will end its operations on June 26, after over 25 years of operations.

UWS is a subsidiary of Mainboard-listed Haw Par Corporations. UWS said that it will have to vacate its Sentosa facility and cease operations with the expiry of its lease in less than two years.

UWS said that it will relocate its animals to Chimelong Ocean Kingdom (COK) in Zhuhai, China.

“Although UWS’ lease is not ending yet, ensuring that our animals have a good home to relocate to is our responsibility and we decided to facilitate their transfer to COK and to cease operations earlier. The transfer of the UWS animals to COK was approved by the authorities in Singapore and China and the animals were relocated last week,” UWS said in a statement.

From June 7 until June 26, guests can visit the park at its 1991 opening ticket price of $9 per adult and $5 per child.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
