Singapore's passport is the most powerful in the world

It shared the top spot with Japan and South Korea, having visa-free access to 189 countries.

Singapore, Japan, and South Korea now hold joint top spot on the Henley Passport Index, as these countries have the highest visa-free or visa-on-arrival access at 189 destinations.

These latest results consolidate 12 months of Asian dominance, after Singapore and Japan first climbed to the top spot in February 2018.

Dominic Volek, managing partner of Henley & Partners Singapore and head of Southeast Asia, said that the 2019 rankings show that more Asian countries have entered the list. However, European countries still dominated the Top 10.

“You only need to look at Singapore, between 2009 and 2019, to see it has improved by more than 30 score points to rise from 8th place to joint 1st place,” Volek said.

Singapore, Japan and South Korea are followed by Germany at 2nd place, with visa-free access to 188 countries. Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, and Sweden share 3rd place with visa-free access to187 countries. The UK and the US sits at 5th and 6th place respectively.
