Business graduates make up largest share of overqualified workers

Humanities and fine arts also show higher rates of job-qualification mismatch.

Business and administration graduates account for about four in 10 overqualified workers in Singapore, the largest share amongst all fields, according to a Ministry of Manpower report.

The higher representation was attributed to the higher number of graduates in the discipline, rather than a higher risk of mismatch.

Among these graduates, 42.2% were voluntarily overqualified, whilst 41.3% were involuntary.

Fields with higher incidences of overqualification also include the humanities and social sciences, fine and applied arts, and mass communication.

Overqualification is more common amongst younger workers, particularly those aged below 30 (21.3%).

Degree holders made up the majority of overqualified workers, with 56.9% of those involuntarily overqualified holding a degree.
