Chart of the Day: Share of tertiary-educated workers rose to 54.6% in ten years

Most of the increase was from degree holders which grew to 36%.

This chart from the Ministry of Manpower (MoM) shows the proportion of tertiary-educated workers grew from 39.3% in 2007 to 54.6% in 2017.

MoM said this indicates the education profile of the resident labour force continued to improve.

Most of the increase was from degree holders, whose share in the workforce grew from 23% to 36% in 2017.

The proportion of workers with a diploma and professional qualifications also increased from 16% to 18.9%.

Amongst those that finished at the non-tertiary level, only the share of those with post-secondary qualifications increased from 8.8% to 11.3%.

The proportion of secondary and below secondary finishers decreased from 24% to 16.5% and 27.9% to 17.6%, respectively.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
