Here's why fewer posts await job seekers in Q4

Nearly 3 in 4 employers don’t plan to hire.

Job seekers might not be in luck in the coming quarter as most of the employers are closing their doors for new recruits in the coming quarter.

According to the latest survey by ManpowerGroup, hiring intentions among Singapore employers remain modest, with hiring sentiment declining for the seventh consecutive quarter.

Of the 646 employers surveyed, only 13% expect to increase staffing levels while 5% anticipate a decrease. On the other hand, 73% of the employers have no intentions of either hiring.

With this, Singapore's net employment outlook stands at a prudent 7%, the weakest forecast reported since the third quarter of 2009.

According to ManpowerGroup country Manager Linda Teo, the hiring sentiment among employers in the city-state reflects the current state of Singapore economy.

"Singapore, being export-driven, has clearly been affected by China’s slumping growth, downturn in commodities and the uncertainty due to Britain’s vote to withdraw from the European Union,” she said.

More so, she stated that the findings reinforce the slow domestic growth Ministry of Trade and Industry has projected for the Singapore economy.

To recall, MTI's updated forecast is for the economy to expand by 1% to 2%, a possible slowest year since 2009. This is narrower than the 1% to 3% that was previously expected.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
