ISCA allocates $3m to elevate directors' proficiency in board masterclass

The programme hopes to provide holistic learning to improve governance and practices.

In response to rising corporate scandals, the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) pledges $3m over the next three years to enhance the proficiency of directors, including many who are Chartered Accountants.

“Directors have a key role to play in leading their organisations and ensuring that companies have good corporate governance standards and practices,” Teo Ser Luck, President of ISCA said in a statement.

The initiative focuses on a holistic Board of Directors (BOD) programme with three key pillars: Learn, Mentor, and Match.

Under the Learn pillar, ISCA collaborates with SAC Capital to develop the BOD Masterclass programme, which will be co-funded by the hedge-fund company. It is also recognized by the Singapore Exchange Regulation.

“SAC Capital will co-fund 50% of the BOD Masterclass Programme fee for our corporate clients. ISCA and SAC Capital believe the ongoing training will also help directors stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes and best practices, contributing to effective decision-making for the best interests of companies and its stakeholders," Ong Hwee Li, CEO of SAC Capital stated.

The blended learning approach includes recorded e-learning modules and in-person facilitated sessions, addressing evolving director responsibilities.

In the Mentor pillar, industry veterans and experienced BODs, chaired by ISCA Distinguished Lifetime Member Boon Swan Foo, will mentor participants quarterly, providing real-world insights.

In the Match pillar, participants can leverage ISCA's complimentary board appointment services, based on their profile, expertise, and track record.

The programme aims to strengthen Singapore's capital market by building directors' capacity through training and mentorship and enhancing corporate governance standards.

The programme opens for registration starting today, with recorded-learning modules available from 1 April, and in-person Director Masterclass sessions scheduled from July to November 2024.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
