Public transport leads daily commutes for on-site, hybrid workers

Only 23% drive to work.

Workers in Singapore mainly rely on public transport when commuting to work, with 60% commuting via MRT/LRT and 56% taking public buses, YouGov reported.

According to the report commissioned by Budget Direct Insurance, 57% of Singapore employees are fully back in the office, whilst hybrid workers are on-site on Wednesdays (69%), Tuesdays (63%), Mondays (59%), and Fridays (41%).

Attendance drops further on weekends, reaching only 10% on Saturdays and 5% on Sundays.

When choosing how to commute, respondents rank convenience (69%), commute time (66%), and cost (60%) as the most important factors.

Waiting time (52%), accessibility (44%), and comfort (39%) also play a role, whilst safety (33%) and sustainability (18%) rank lower.

Meanwhile, 23% drive, and only 12% use private hire services like Grab or Gojek. Additionally, 25% walk to work, 5% use bicycles, and 3% use motorcycles.

YouGov surveyed over 1,000 Singaporeans on their commuting patterns influenced by hybrid work arrangements and evolving transport preferences.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
