Singaporeans mainly tune into podcasts for education, entertainment: survey

Daily podcast listeners were 67% more likely to be listeners of daily broadcast radio.

Nearly a third (28%) of podcast listeners in Singapore preferred educational content, making it the most popular category in the city-state, according to a survey by On Device.

The report revealed that more than half (55%) of Singaporeans listened to podcasts monthly, averaging 1.8 hours of daily listening time, peaking between 10:00 PM and midnight.

After educational content, other popular podcast genres were humour and comedy (37%), chat and conversational (26%), true crime (24%) and news (23%).

Politics (16%), science (14%), fiction (12%), fashion (11%) and arts (8%) were the least popular.

Majority of the respondents said they listen to podcasts for entertainment (58%) and during commute (34%).

Two-thirds preferred free ad-supported services, while the rest tolerated ads for free content even as many feel there is excessive ad clutter.

Mobile phones were the device of choice for 81% of listeners, preferring YouTube and Spotify as their go-to platforms.

The report surveyed 804 Singaporeans.
